How healthy is that smile hidden behind your safety mask?

“It is a service to others when you wear a mask…”, shares Dr. Jonathan Frankel of Toledo, Ohio, “…but is it affecting your dental health?”

According to Dr. Frankel, those with existing tooth and gum issues may become aware of the situation while wearing a mask. Others may begin to breathe through their mouth rather than their nose causing dry mouth.

Dry mouth is associated with decay and gum disease.

Frankel does offer advice.

• Do wear a safety mask.
• Breath through your nose.
• Drink plenty of water.
• Manage consumption of alcohol and coffee.
• Brush and floss daily.
• Use a tongue scraper.
• Rinse with alcohol-free mouth wash.
• Visit your dentist at least once every six months.
