Are you a habitual snacker? Do you like to eat and drink in between meals? What you eat and when you eat it may affect the health of your teeth and even increase your risk of decay. When you continue to consume sugary foods, the acid from the foods eats away at the enamel of your teeth causing tooth decay. Eating a well-balanced diet will help keep your mouth healthy as well as your whole body.
How to reduce your risk of tooth decay:
Sip on water instead of juices or sugary beverages
Be aware of how much sugar is in the food or beverage you are drinking – learn to read food labels!
Instead of consuming breath mints or hard candy, pack an extra tooth brush to freshen up in between meals. Try a sugarless gum!
Brush and floss your teeth regularly – use a fluoride toothpaste and even consider a mouth wash.
